The “Trust Machine: The story of Blockchain” is a documentary showing how Bitcoin and crypto currencies have evolved as well as touching on the recent case of Lauri Love who is a British activist accused of stealing government data, wanted for 99 years in prison. Luckily, Lauri won his appeal against extradition from UK to USA. The documentary also includes the late Arron Swartz – The Internet’s own boy. Both Arron and Lauri have been included in this documentary to show how governments persecute those who attempt to hack or undermine their monopoly of power.
The documentary goes back to 2008 and the economic collapse and shows ‘Satoshi Nakamoto’ creating blockchain – a decentralised system of currency with no central control or server.
The documentary hopes to show people that the blockchain and cryptocurrency is a decentralised tool that can assist in empowerment.
The director of the documentary is Alex Winter who has also made:
- Downloaded – A documentary that explores the downloading revolution; the kids that created it, the bands and the businesses that were affected by it, and its impact on the world at large.
- Deepweb – A feature documentary that explores the rise of a new Internet; decentralized, encrypted, dangerous and beyond the law; with particular focus on the FBI capture of the Tor hidden service Silk Road, and the judicial aftermath. www.imdb.com/title/tt3312868/
